About New Zealand BIRDZ Magazine.
Having been a Birdkeeper all my life, this magazine
originated from a desire to make available to all, information that
keeps everyone informed about all aspects of Birdkeeping in New Zealand
and beyond. We started production in
October 2001 and have continued to work at not only improving the content
of the magazine but also the visual layout
and presentation of material. The magazine is published quarterly, 40 pages with
full colour cover and 8 colour plates
throughout. We cover articles on all birdkeeping subjects, including
species like Parrots, Finches, Pheasants, Quail,
Budgerigars, Canaries, Doves, Poultry, Waterfowl, as well as native
species. You name it and we are the answer,
with the help of others, many questions about behaviour and other bird
related problems.
Although I have kept a number of different bird species
over the years, at present, I am specialising with a reasonable sized
collection of Australian and Foreign finches, which have always been my
favourite, in a number of aviaries. As
we work from home putting the magazine together my wife and I act as a
team. I act as Editor and director of everything,
while Pam does the book work, accounts and advertising, as well as giving
constructive criticism to everything we undertake. We have a growing
readership base throughout New Zealand and some subscribers in
other
countries. The magazine is primarily distributed through Pet Shops and
Seed and Grain Merchants all over the
country, as well as by subscription.
We have had many express appreciation for our ongoing
efforts. Typical is this comment from Darren who writes
"Congratulations on such an excellent birdkeeping magazine. I have
been getting it from issue one and have not regretted it. It is full of
advice and well presented, certainly as good (if not better) than some
overseas publications." We invite
other birdkeepers to contribute articles and photos to continue making the
magazine interesting for everyone.
Please get in touch with us if you have any ideas for article
contributions. As this is a small country we work
on a limited budget compared to most overseas magazines, but feel the
quality of the magazine has not been compromised
and is still very high, as commented on by many of our readers.
We also run a classified advertising page, with
opportunity to advertise your birds throughout N.Z. FREE of charge. So if
you want to consider trying a different way of looking at birdkeeping, why
not subscribe to the magazine, we don’t
think you will be disappointed.
